QCWA 2022 Centenary

100 years and Beyond

Across Queensland, QCWA branch members will be celebrating the Association’s 100th anniversary which occurs on 11th August 2022.

The Centenary Calendar of Events will be officially launched (pandemic dependant) at the opening of the Association’s annual State Conference, next October in Gladstone.

While Divisions and Branches are nominating their celebratory ideas for a compilation calendar of events, here is a sneak peek at some of the ideas.

Organisers hope to then host a cocktail party, open to the public, members and media, at the State Library, Brisbane in 2022 and a Gala dinner ball with the regional conference in Toowoomba in the same year.

There will be several touring expos including:

  • 100 extraordinary, exciting and artistic tea cosies
  • 100 vintage, antique collectors’ items or inspirational new or retro aprons
  • Knitters are planning to knit squares to cover an entire football field, to then make blankets for the needy
  • History banners, one for each of the ten decades are being researched by historians, designed by artists and made by quilters from the association.

The QCWA’s Country Kitchens program are working on co branding some iconic Queensland produce such as flour.

A range of commemorative merchandise, chosen from Queensland producers and makers will be available, such as an Ashdene China mug, a Calendar featuring photography by Ann Briton; chocolates, soaps by Oska and Willow, and fridge magnets, stickers and a badge featuring the QCWA’s centenary logo.

Long-time supporter of the QCWA, Wallace Bishop has been commissioned to produce a unique piece of jewellery. The precise piece is firmly under wraps for now.

Three major books about the Association are being produced for sale. A pictorial history book; a collection of personal stories about extraordinary women and extraordinary lives; and a cookbook featuring 100 recipes from 100 women across 100 years.

Stay in touch with this page and check the special Centenary Events listing below for details about bookings and purchasing commemorative items.
