Backing our students

Each year the QCWA offers a range of bursaries to assist secondary and tertiary students continue their studies.  

Areas of study currently include agriculture and rural topics, midwifery, photography, music and dance.

Applications are open from November each year and close on the 31st January the following year. 

Please read the specific bursary information sheet for eligibility details before submitting your application.

BURSARIES AVAILABLE

ACADEMIC STUDIES

Billie Maykin Memorial Bursaries, to the value of $500 each, are offered annually to secondary or tertiary students who are academically able but, because of financial circumstances, would not otherwise complete their studies.

QCWA State Photography Bursary, to the value of $500 is offered annually to assist a tertiary student who is academically able but because of financial circumstances, would not otherwise complete a tertiary level course.

RURAL STUDIES

The Ruth Fairfax Memorial Bursary – Two of these Bursaries, worth $2500 each, are awarded annually to students under the age of 25 whose permanent home address is in Queensland, who has received an offer for tertiary study and intends to pursue a course with major rural content.

MEDICAL STUDIES

QCWA Greater Brisbane Division Daphne Dowdle Midwifery Bursary offering one bursary of $1,000 to a Queensland student enrolled in a full-time midwifery course at University.

REGIONAL LOCATIONS

QCWA Border Division is offering one bursary annually of $1,000 to a mature age student, 21 years and over, whose home address is in the area covered by Border Division. Either male or female students are welcome to apply.

QCWA Condamine Valley/Warwick Branch offers three bursaries of $2,000 each, to students commencing full time tertiary studies whose home address is in the Border Division. We are pleased to offer this also to Goondiwindi students and is open to both female and male students.

QCWA Far Northern Division Education Support Bursary offers two bursaries of $5000 each to students in Far North Queensland. The bursaries are open to all ages, men or women who are undertaking training, or retraining for recognised qualifications in Health, Agriculture or Apprenticeships listed on the skills shortage list. QCWA Oakey Branch 

is offering four (4) bursaries. Valued at $5,000 for each year of study for a maximum of four (4) years. Potential tertiary students from the Darling Downs region of Queensland are invited to apply. Applications are invited from students wishing to study either education, agricultural science or allied health care. This bursary is to be administered by the QCWA Oakey Branch and both male and female students are encouraged to apply.

MUSIC & DANCE

The Audrey J Hoskin Music Bursaries, to the value of $1000 each, are awarded annually to students who are dedicated in their pursuit of a musical career (either vocal or instrumental).  Applicants should have achieved a standard of excellence that would permit entry to an accredited school of music (eg the Conservatorium) or under the tutelage of a recognised Queensland private teacher.

QCWA Eumundi Branch/Queensland Youth Orchestra Bursary is open to students who are pursuing musical studies and have successfully auditioned for the Queensland Youth Orchestra. Three bursaries of $700 each are offered to students who have relocated to Brisbane from rural or remote Queensland to pursue their studies.

QCWA Darling Downs Division Dance Bursary is offering one bursary annually of $1000 to a public student whose home address is in regional or rural Queensland. This student must be a public student enrolled as a dance student at tertiary level.

The Mallalieu Home Foundation Trust Scholarships are awarded annually. Up to four scholarships of $500 each may be awarded to music students attending and studying music at the Conservatorium of Music.
