Country Kitchens

Welcome to QCWA Country Kitchens

The Queensland Country Women’s Association’s Country Kitchens program is a health promotion program supporting communities across Queensland to adopt healthier lifestyle behaviours.

It is a partnership between the QCWA and the Queensland Government, funded through Health and Wellbeing Queensland.

The Country Kitchens program supports QCWA volunteer members, who already have a wealth of cooking knowledge and skills, with training and support to help improve the health and wellbeing of Queenslanders, particularly those living in rural, regional and remote locations.

The Country Kitchens team of Accredited Practicing Dietitians and Nutritionists design and deliver training in nutrition promotion and food literacy. Working with the team, our trained Country Kitchens facilitators use their new skills and knowledge to deliver health promotion activities in their local communities.

The QCWA’s Country Kitchens program is improving food and nutrition literacy, and importantly, influencing behaviour change at a grass roots level.

To date, the Nutritionists and Dietitians, have travelled to over 80 communities delivering activities including hands on nutrition workshops, training events and showcases; resulting in a volunteer workforce of over 120 Branch Facilitators who enthusiastically, brought over 1200 participants to workshops and promoted “localised” health promotion initiatives to more than 15,000 Queenslanders.

Today, the Country Kitchens program continues to develop training and localised health promotion resources for over 200 Branch Facilitators in over 160 communities across Queensland.

This is how the QCWA’s Country Kitchens program connects women with the power to heal their communities.

The program has developed Healthy Cooking Guidelines as a foundation document providing evidence based nutrition information, healthy recipe nutrient criteria and practical advice on cooking for family and friends.

QCWA branch members can download the Country Kitchens QCWA Events Members' Recipe Booklet
