Lobbying for change
The QCWA operates at a grass roots level as well as a higher level of interaction with governments, when advocating on behalf of women and their families in rural, regional and urban Queensland. During 100 years of serving communities across the state, we have proven our effectiveness when lobbying for change and driving local action. Our successes over this period include:
- Improving access to midwifery services
- The provision of dental care and speech therapy in remote/regional areas
- The introduction of patient transport subsidies
- Introduction of hazard reduction practices
- Improved water management
- Delivery of education around Irlen syndrome (associated with head trauma) and Q Fever (affecting those in the meat processing industry)
- Seatbelts fitted on school buses (as part of National CWA Network)
- Introduction of white lines on road shoulders (as part of the National CWA Network)
- Compulsory wearing of seatbelts (as part of the National CWA Network)
Although nostalgically know for our scones and tea, we have always been more than our well-recognised fundraising icons. The QCWA is an organisation dedicated to improving lives through advocacy and providing opportunities for women around education, health and community.
